Categories and Winners 

The 2016 award categories and winners are as follows:

Chief Executive’s Leadership Award

Nicky Heydon, is a Senior Sister in Emergency Care. She is an experienced and knowledgeable senior nurse who provides excellent leadership and high quality care throughout her work.

Chairman’s Outstanding Contribution Award

Pat Baber has been a nurse for 26 years and a Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse since 2000. She is kind and compassionate and provides outstanding, caring support for patients and their families.

Unsung Hero Award

As a hospital Porter, Ebrima Markess, is kind, compassionate and popular across the hospital. Known as “Charlie” he often goes beyond his duties for people in need.

Customer Care Team Award

The Maternity Department received a number of nominations for outstanding care and the sensitive way they looked after pregnant women and their families.

Customer Care Individual Award

A&E staff nurse Claire Pilkington was rewarded for the sensitive and professional way she cared for a father and son when the father needed to be given news about a probable cancer.

Living the Values Award

There were four awards, each reflecting one of the Trust’s values of professional, patient centred and safe, friendly and responsive. There was also an additional overall winner in the Living the Values section. The winners were: Jonathan Borwell and Lynne Constable (joint winners professional), the Paediatric Diabetes Team (patient centred and safe), Valerie Windmill (friendly), the Infection, Prevention and Control Team (responsive). The overall winner was Renu Thapa, who is a Radiology Receptionist. All were exceptional in the way they met the Trust’s values throughout their work.

Service Improvement Individual and Team Award

Joint Winner: Paediatric Diabetes Team. Through enhanced psychological and dietetic support, increased education and peer support the team improved treatment targets, increased satisfaction levels and reduced diabetic admissions.

Joint Winner: Radiology Department – Warren Foster: The radiology department restructured imaging with one room set aside daily for internal referrals. This improved the management of inpatient scanning, reduced delays and made it more efficient.

Service Improvement Sponsored Project Award

Winner: Programme Management Office. The Save 7 campaign has produced significant results with 243 ideas submitted and scoped for change projects. Savings and changes to practice have already been made in a number of areas.

Governors’ Volunteer Award

Michael Beck “Wally Wheelbarrow” first started fundraising for the hospital 13 years ago, and he and David Chalk have raised over £275,000 for the hospital, fundraising in all weather, never without a friendly smile.

Equality and Diversity Award

As part of the new electronic patient record implementation, Ellie Gibson in Informatics worked tirelessly to support staff who had visual problems and needed specialist IT support.

Challenge Award

The Save 7 campaign was the focus for this year’s Challenge Award. As a Save 7 champion, Finance Assistant Stacy Blake, worked hard to engage with colleagues and encourage ideas.

Pinder Award (Mentoring Award)

In mentoring a student nurse, Caroline Davy had a significant impact on their knowledge and confidence, improving their ability to work independently and confidently in theatre.

Nick Marsden, Chairman of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said: “We have continued to see a number of significant financial and operational challenges, yet staff have provided the very best care that they can for our patients. These awards give us an ideal opportunity to acknowledge the enormous contribution our staff have made to local health services and I’m proud to able to give our staff the recognition that they deserve for all their efforts this year.”

Highly Commended: Artcare Department for improving the lifts and wayfinding and the Procurement Department for its Non Pay Orthopaedic Project.
