Salisbury District Hospital shortlisted in two national awards

Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust has been shortlisted for two national awards covering patient safety and quality of care.

Salisbury is the only Trust in the country to be shortlisted in two categories by CHKS, independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services. The winner will be announced on 22 April at an awards ceremony in London.

The awards are based on assessments made of all hospitals in the UK. The Patient Safety Award recognises outstanding performance in providing a safe hospital environment for patients and uses a number of criteria, including infection and mortality rates. For the Quality of Care Award, the assessments are made around length of hospital stay, and emergency readmission rates. Four other hospitals are shortlisted in both categories.

Peter Hill, Director of Operations said: “Patient safety and quality of care are two key factors for our patients and, bearing in mind the number of hospitals that could be considered for this award, it is a real achievement for us to be shortlisted in these two categories.

James Coles, Director of Research, CHKS, said: “Patients should be able to rely on their local hospital to provide a clean environment and appropraite, safe treatment at the right time. The Trusts on our shortlist are demonstrating the high standards that all patients should expect from their hospital.”
