Nick started his career as a consulting engineer having graduated with first class honours in Civil Engineering from Leeds University and where he completed a Ph.D in Fluid Mechanics. He then joined IBM in 1977 where he held several senior executive roles which led to him becoming a member of the European Executive Board before taking on the role as Senior Vice President for Service at Danka Europe.

Having joined UHS in 2007, Nick focused on strategy and business performance and had a particular interest in business development and information technology. He was appointed Vice Chairman in 2011.

Peter Hill, Chief Executive of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, said: "Nick is a strong strategic thinker with a wealth of commercial and NHS experience. He has a reputation for integrity and transparency and has a deep passion and pride in the NHS and the day to day work of NHS staff. These are challenging times for the NHS and we are pleased that Nick has joined us as we work together to make continued improvements to local health services."

Dr Nick Marsden, Chairman of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said:

"I know that the hospital has an excellent reputation with high standards of patient care and tremendous support and interest from the local community. It also has a strong and experienced Board, dedicated governors and highly committed staff who work hard to deliver the very best care that they can for their patients. I’m delighted to have the opportunity of taking on the role of Chairman and leading the Board and the organisation through the challenges that we face now and in the future."

The appointment was made by the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust Council of Governors. The Chairman serves three years and can extend this for a further three-year term. Nick will receive remuneration of £43,500 per annum.
