Online 'Visiting Rooms' to keep Patients in touch with relatives

Relatives and friends now have access to a unique way of keeping in touch with their loved ones at Salisbury District Hospital thanks to a new ‘online visiting room’ called

Justvisiting is an independent and secure website that enables a relative or carer to set up a virtual visiting room on the site and invite others to view updates on a patient’s progress. They can also share current visiting information and pick up messages of support for the patient in hospital.

The website was inspired by a simple idea thought up by a Gateshead publican and an NHS manager in the North East of England. It received support from lottery funding and a local authority enterprise grant, as well as the NHS in the North East.

Tracey Nutter, Director of Nursing said: " This really is a very good idea and one that we are happy to promote for patients and relatives here in Salisbury . It’s especially useful for concerned friends and relatives who don’t want to contact the patient or next of kin directly, or too often. For people who live far away from their loved ones, or find it difficult to visit, it’s another way to get involved and offer support."

The website can be accessed directly at . Alternatively people can access the site through the Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust website at .
