Staff have rated Salisbury District Hospital very well in a recent national survey, highlighting the hospital as a good place to work or receive treatment.
A random sample of 830 staff were asked their views of working for the Trust based on the four staff pledges in the NHS Constitution. These cover staff roles and responsibilities, training and development, management support and staff involvement, as well as opportunities to maintain staff health and wellbeing. There were also two additional themes this year looking at staff satisfaction and equality and diversity.
When compared to other hospitals, the Trust scored either above average or in the top 20% of best performing Trusts in 26 of the 38 areas measured and below average in three.
Jenny Hair, Deputy Director of Human Resources said: “The results this year are really encouraging and excellent news for our patients as they demonstrate that our staff believe that Salisbury District Hospital is a good place to work and receive treatment. “
“The results also show that we have listened to what staff told us last year and taken action where it was needed. For instance, in the last year many more staff have had a well structured appraisal than they have had previously. Appraisals are important as they ensure that staff are able to do their work to the best of their ability and that they have the support that they need to ensure their own wellbeing and personal development.”
“We acknowledge that there are opportunities for further improvements and we will be looking at the results in more detail over the next few weeks in order to develop an overall action plan for the Trust. “
Mrs Hair added: “We had an excellent rate of response to the survey which reflects the commitment, interest and motivation of our staff. A high response rate also provides us with an accurate picture of how staff feel about working for us.”
