Staff at Salisbury District Hospital will provide additional support and advice to carers at a special Carers’ Café tea party in Springs Restaurant on Thursday, June 9 between 2.30pm and 4pm in support of Carers Week.
Carers who have loved ones or friends in hospital can already share their experiences over a cup of coffee and get advice and support from specialist staff every Thursday. The aim of this event is to raise awareness of caring and the challenges that all carers face.
Lorna Wilkinson, Director of Nursing said: “The Carers’ Café provides a place for carers who specifically have loved ones or friends in hospital to come together, eat, drink and talk in a stress free environment with volunteers from the Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK and Carers Support Wiltshire. They can answer any questions or signpost to the appropriate help in the community.”
“Carers Week is also an opportunity to acknowledge the tremendous support that carers give to family, friends or people that need their help and also the significant contribution that they make to our society.”
Ms Wilkinson added: “We would like to thank all the voluntary organisations for their time in supporting our Carers’ Café and providing help to people who have loved ones in hospital. We would also like to acknowledge the help and support Salisbury Hospital League of Friends gives us in funding the extras that make this such a successful initiative.”
