Stars Appeal reaches £650,000 CT Scanner campaign ahead of time

Thanks to the generosity of local people and the support of staff, local businesses and organisations, the Stars Appeal has reached its £650,000 target for a new second CT scanner for Salisbury District Hospital – a year ahead of schedule.

Peter Hill, Chief Executive of Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said: “The support that we’ve received has been absolutely fantastic, and we cannot thank people enough for their generosity, help and dedication to the hospital and this campaign.”

“Throughout the last year so many people have given up their time to raise money, offered their help and services for free or used their own organisations to help promote the campaign for a second CT Scanner for Salisbury. While we cannot possibly name everyone here, each and every one of you deserves our praise and gratitude and the heartfelt thanks of the Trust Board.”

The Trust will place the order for a new CT scanner early in the New Year with the aim of it being operational in the summer.

Around twelve thousand patients each year will benefit from the new CT scanner which will help reduce waiting times for CT scans and enable medical staff to make quicker diagnoses.

The new CT scanner will have the very latest technology, meaning some patients will avoid having minor surgery, with all its possible side effects.

Patients will no longer need to travel to other hospitals for scans. Patients will be able to get the CT Scan they need at Salisbury, at any time of day or night, even if one scanner is busy or undergoing essential maintenance.

Peter Hill said: “ We know that a number of people and organisations still have fundraising activities planned for the CT Scanner campaign. While the hospital will still pick up the installation and running costs for the new scanner, we will use any additional money to improve diagnostic services even further.”
