Former Salisbury woman raises £1,780 from Ben Nevis climb

Former Salisbury women Allison Fower has raised £1,780 for Tisbury Ward as a thank you to staff who cared for her former husband’s father Terry Fower who died in February after a long illness.

Mrs Fower, who had lived in Salisbury all her life before moving to North Berwick in Scotland six years ago, climbed Ben Nevis in memory of Terry and also her former husband and dear friend Tony who died suddenly of a heart attack three weeks after his father. The money will go to Tisbury Ward under the umbrella of the Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal.

Mrs Fower said: “Although I now live in Scotland with my two teenage children Matt and Jenny we still have all of our family and many friends in and around Salisbury and still visit on a regular basis.  The staff on Tisbury Ward were so supportive of the family and wonderful in their care of Terry over such a long period of time. When Tony died recently, I thought it would be nice to climb Ben Nevis in memory of them both and raise money for the ward that had been so good to our family when Terry was a patient.  I know how much this had meant to Tony. ”

In addition to the money Mrs Fower raised through the climb, over £500 has been collected from donations at both Terry and Tony’s funeral, which will be given to Tisbury Ward. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who kindly contributed.

The Stars Appeal is an ongoing appeal with individual campaigns raising funds for state-of-the-art equipment and new facilities. Although the first two are raising money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a dedicated Keyhole Cancer Theatre, local people can continue to raise money for their chosen ward, unit or department as part of the ongoing appeal.

Dave Cates, Director of Fundraising at Salisbury District Hospital said: “ We are very grateful to Mrs Fower for her support of Tisbury Ward, especially at such a sad time for the family. Although the appeal is initially focusing on two main campaign areas, it’s nice that people continue to support other hospital services or express their thanks to staff in other areas.” Ends
