Salisbury League of Friends donate £10,000 for new birthing pool

Pregnant women will now benefit from a new luxury birthing pool at Salisbury District Hospital thanks to a £10,000 donation by the Salisbury League of Friends.

The new pool was officially presented to the Maternity Unit in front of hospital staff and representatives from the Salisbury League of Friends following a special blessing given by hospital chaplain Chris Renyard.

Caroline Brunt, Head of Maternity and Neonatal Services said: " We are very grateful to the League of Friends for their generosity. The new pool provides an upgraded replacement for an older model, which had been used within the unit for 10 years. "

"The new pool is larger and provides a soothing environment. It has an integral seat and underwater lighting. Using water eases contractions during labour and helps women feel more relaxed. The larger pool gives more space to move around effortlessly, changing their position to increase their comfort."  Ends
