The Bristol Half Marathon takes place on September 9, with Steve Cram, Olympic silver medallist and former world champion middle distance runner, confirming his entry in this year’s race. The Salisbury Half Marathon takes place on October 28.
The Bristol Half Marathon is one of the UK’s leading road races and in recent years has become one of the largest and most popular half marathons in the country. The race was first held in 1989 when it attracted 1,000 runners. By 2006 this had grown to 15,000 and places were all taken up in a record breaking six weeks.
The Salisbury Half Marathon is now in its tenth year. This popular local road race is run on quiet country roads to the north of the city, taking in the scenic Avon Valley through the Woodfords and boasting fine views of Salisbury Cathedral and Old Sarum.
Dave Cates, Director of Fundraising at Salisbury District Hospital said: ”Places on runs and marathons can be hard to come by, with many people wanting to run as their way of raising money for charitable causes. This is a marvellous opportunity for runners to get their place on either the Bristol or Salisbury Half Marathon and in the process do their bit to support the Stars Appeal.”
The Stars Appeal is an ongoing appeal with individual campaigns raising funds for state-of-the-art equipment and new facilities. Although the first two are raising money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and a dedicated Keyhole Cancer Theatre, local people can continue to raise money for their chosen ward, unit or department as part of the ongoing appeal.
Mr Cates added: “All places are free for people who want to enter the Bristol or Salisbury Half Marathons. If interested, please contact Hannah Paye on 01722 429005 or email email@example.com.
