Having turned his back on city life to set up a farm, Jimmy Doherty has put all his energy into sustainable farming. He has now filmed three series of 'Jimmy's Farm' which followed him on a journey to set up a rare breed pig farm in Suffolk. His latest series, Jimmy’s Farming Heroes, takes a revealing and entertaining look at farming methods across the country.
This year the fair is celebrating its 20th Anniversary and is now established as one of the year's 'must-attend' events for local people and beyond. This year there will be 90 stands, 40% of which will be new, with stall holders from across the UK, selling exclusive and original goods that make perfect Christmas presents. Jimmy’s Farm will also have a stall at the fair, which will be selling his free range rare breed pork.
The Food Hall, and the 'Home and Garden' sections will again feature highly. There is a restaurant offering lunches, snacks, tea and coffee, as well as a bar, a professionally run crèche and free parking. The fair will remain open until 7.30 pm on the Thursday evening.
The proceeds from this year’s fair will go towards a number of charities including the Stars Appeal. From 2009 the fair will be organised by volunteers from the Stars Appeal, with the proceeds from the first fair going to the Caring 4 Kids campaign, which is raising money for state-of-the-art equipment in a new children's centre. The Stars Appeal raises money to create the best possible experience for people who rely on Salisbury District Hospital. It funds extra care and equipment over and above that provided by the NHS. The Appeal benefits all wards and departments. It also raises money for major projects. In 2007, thanks to the generous support of the local community, the Appeal funded advanced equipment for premature and critically ill babies and an advanced keyhole cancer surgery suite.
The Stars Appeal now faces its biggest challenge to date. The Caring 4 Kids campaign is raising £1million to help create a state-of-the-art children’s centre at the Hospital which will treat over 6,000 children each year. The Caring 4 Kids campaign will fund a range of additional facilities and equipment within the centre including parents’ accommodation, dedicated long stay rooms for children with serious illnesses, indoor and outdoor play areas and a multi sensory room for children with disabilities. The Caring 4 Kids campaign will also fund high-tech equipment for diagnosis and treatment.
