The Chief Executive’s leadership award went to pathology manager Christine White for the way she supported staff through service changes, mentored them through education and training programmes and introduced improvements to the pathology service.
The multi disciplinary team award is given to a team that has provided an exceptional service and improved performance through team working. Pitton Ward staff standardised ward storage, saving time for doctors, nurses and therapists. They also introduced he Trust’s new electronic system for patient handover and instigated handover by the bedside on their own ward. This improved communication between the team and increased patient involvement in their own care.
The leadership award is given to a member of staff who has supported others through organisational development or change and motivated and encouraged staff to develop. Christine White showed considerable commitment to training and education in her area and established an NVQ programme for pathology staff and developed new links with external education providers. She introduced improvements to testing processes that cut down turnaround times and also supported staff through changes in the location of cytology services.
Matthew Kershaw, Chief Executive said: “ Excellent leadership and team working at all levels is essential for us as it helps our staff provide the best possible care for our patients. It also ensures that staff have the skills that they need to continually improve the care that they provide to our patients and the support that they need for their own personal and professional development.
