The award recognises outstanding performance in providing a safe hospital environment for patients.
The Trust was named the winner at an awards ceremony in London hosted by CHKS, independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services. The Trust was also presented with a Highly Commended award in the Quality of Care category.
The awards are based on assessments made of all hospitals in the UK. The Patient Safety Award recognises outstanding performance in providing a safe hospital environment for patients and uses a number of criteria, including infection and mortality rates.
Peter Hill, Acting Chief Executive said: "Patient Safety is an important area for people that use our hospital services and we are delighted to have won this award from CHKS. Our staff work hard to ensure that our patients are treated in a safe and caring many and this award is recognition for their professionalism and commitment in this area."
