Having a Blood Test

Children's blood clinic in the Day Assessment Unit (DAU)

Appointments for children's blood tests can be made by phoning DAU on 01722 336262 ext 4201

Clinic days are:
Tuesday  9am - 12 noon
Thursday 9am -12 noon.

This service is covered by two experienced phlebotomists (people trained in taking blood).

On arrival parents and children will be greeted by the phlebotomists. They are happy to answer any questions you may have before the procedure or help with any worries.

Parents or the child will be able to decide if they would like to use cold spray or anaesthetising gel to make the skin numb before having the blood test. The phlebotomists aim to take make the blood test as quick and painless as possible, causing minimum distress. Play and distraction is also used to help put the children at ease.

Please remember to bring any blood forms or information given to you by the doctor ordering the blood test.

For more information, please see our patient information leaflet on having a blood test
