Department Description:

The Department of Clinical Psychology contains a team of Clinical Psychologists who have particular experience and expertise in the field of physical health and disability. The psychologists have particular expertise in the following areas: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; anxiety; depression; body image problems and difficulties with intellectual functioning.

The department receives referrals from a range of different departments within the hospital which include Burns & Plastic Surgery, Spinal Injuries, Wessex Rehabilitation Centre, Diabetes, Stroke Unit, Oncology and Palliative Care. The department also has a specialist interest in the field of cancer care and is currently undertaking a large research study into this area.

The department has a dedicated psychologist working solely in the field of cancer care and palliative care. The department offers a service not only to patients within the hospital but also their families. The department also trains Clinical Psychologists from the Universities of Southampton, Bristol and Surrey. We are also happy to provide teaching sessions on the psychological aspects of various illnesses and injuries and we continually undertake research and audit work.

The Clinical Psychology Department is located towards the rear of the hospital, close to the Urology Centre.

Car Park 8 (pay and display).
Directions:

For car users, parking is available at the rear of the site in car park 8 (pay & display). From car park 8, follow signs to Sarum Entrance. Turn left, after the tennis court and continue up the ramp past Gynae OPD. Clinical Psychology can be found at the top, on the right, just past the Neonatal Unit.

For patients using the bus service, use the bus stop at The Green, enter hospital and turn right, take the first corridor immediately on your left (following signs to Neonatal Unit) at the double doors, turn right outside and Clinical Psychology can found at the end of the pathway on your left.

Engage is a programme delivered by volunteers who are supported by the Clinical Psychology team to provide support for older people while they are in hospital.  If you are interested in helping us to deliver this programme, please contact the Clinical Psychology Department as we always welcome new volunteers.
