Medical Education 

We are responsible for the education of all the training grade doctors employed by Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust and for the training of those medical students who are on attachment from the University Medical Schools of Southampton, and King's College London. We also contribute to the continuing professional education of local general medical and general dental practitioners.

Teaching Programmes/Educational Sessions

F1 – Weekly core teaching programme with protected time for skills, knowledge and development. Foundation Year 1 Teaching is every Wed 13:00 -14:00 hrs, with two afternoon sessions from 1300 to 1700 each four month block. Clinical Teams will be made aware of this; trainees will not be expected to return to work afterwards if on a normal working day. The teaching sessions are mandatory.

All F1 doctors are given the opportunity to get involved in Health Improvement projects which have led to national and international recognition for some trainees.

Health Improvement Project

F2 – Weekly protected core teaching programme. Hospital at Night training (HANT), ALS, SAMP (Salisbury Acute Management & Procedure) courses. Regular Educational supervision. Foundation Year 2 Teaching is every Tue 13:00 -14:00 hrs, with two afternoon sessions from 13:00 to 17:00 each four month block. Clinical Teams will be made aware of this; trainees will not be expected to return to work afterwards if on a normal working day. The teaching sessions are mandatory.

F1/F2 - Additional directorate educational meetings. Regular Trust wide clinical governance sessions.

Hospital Round (Last Friday of the month 12:30-13:30) – departmental presentations on topics of interest. All multi-professional staff are welcome.

Education Centre facilities include the Health Care Library, Clinical Skills Room equipped with SimMan/SimBaby, Lecture Theatre, IT/Internet access.

The Doctors' Mess is equipped with pool and table tennis, Sky TV, papers and free food. There are regular social events - BBQs, curry nights, wake boarding, weekly hockey and football. Annual Christmas and Summer Balls.
