Salisbury District Hospital will open a new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) offering patients more appropriate and timely care for urgent health needs that are not life threatening.
The new centre (expected to open in Autumn 2026) is being made possible through £7 million of capital funding from NHS England, enabling Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust to develop a modern, purpose-built facility. The UTC will be designed to improve patient flow and provide quicker access to urgent care services.
Urgent Treatment Centres are already established at other hospitals within the BSW Hospitals Group, including the Royal United Hospitals Bath and Great Western Hospital. These centres have proven effective in helping patients access the right care more quickly, while supporting Emergency Departments to focus on the most serious cases.
The Salisbury UTC will treat a range of conditions, including minor injuries, breaks and sprains, cuts, infections, and other health problems that require same-day treatment but are not life threatening. By caring for these patients in a dedicated setting, the hospital’s Emergency Department will be better able to concentrate on people with serious or life-threatening conditions, helping them receive faster and more specialised care.
For patients, this means being seen in the right place by the right team, with a smoother and more efficient experience when attending hospital.
Nick Johnson, Managing Director at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, said:
"This new Urgent Treatment Centre is all about improving care for our patients. It will make it easier for people with urgent health needs to be seen quickly, while also allowing our Emergency Department teams to focus on those who are most unwell. It’s a really positive step forward for patients and for our staff.”
The Urgent Treatment Centre forms part of the Trust’s ongoing commitment to improving access to care and ensuring patients receive timely, high-quality treatment when they need it most.
