Medical Photography is a specialist profession supporting other healthcare professions within a medical environment. The area of expertise is made up of professionals called Healthcare Scientists who specialise in photography.
By car: Enter hospital site at Entrance A. Park in car park 8.
By bus: Alight at Main Entrance (third stop).
Enter hospital at Main Entrance, level 3, to Minor Injuries Unit. Turn right towards plastics and laser clinic – Medical photography is at the end of the corridor.
Medical photographers work to rigorous standardised photographic guidelines (Institute of Medical Illustrators (www.imi.org.uk) National Guidelines).
Clinical images are part of a patient’s health care record, they are used for diagnosis, assessment and the on-going treatment of both in-patients and out-patients.
Images may be used for clinical teaching/education but only if the proper level of consent has been granted.
The department also undertakes litigation/ medico-legal photography to support medical reports for solicitors and other professional groups.
Medical photography may be undertaken in the medical photography studio, on the wards or other departments within the hospital.
