Dressings Clinic

A children's dressing clinic is held every Wednesday by an experienced nurse from Sarum Ward. Children who need to have their dressings changed after they have had surgery will be given an appointment to come to this clinic.

The nurse will check that the wound is healing properly when the dressing is changed and can contact other members of the team if this is necessary. If further dressing changes are needed, you will be advised whether these are to be done at the hospital or at your GP’s surgery. Even if your child has had their dressing changed before the date of the appointment, we still ask that you keep your appointment at the clinic.

The play team are also present at dressing clinics and use play techniques to ensure that the dressing change is as quick and painless as possible, and causes minimum distress to children and their parents.

We ask that you please give your child a painkiller at home before your appointment time so that it has had chance to work by the time the dressing is changed.

If you are unable to attend the appointment in dressing clinic or have any questions regarding the time or date, please speak to our Ward Clerks between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday on 01722 336262 ext 2560. The appointment letter will include details of where the clinic is being held.
