The Department of Clinical Science and Engineering provides clinical engineering and physical science input and advice into healthcare in Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust and across the wider community. Comprised of 5 services and supported by an administration team, it is multi-disciplinary in nature and works closely with other departments in the hospital to deliver services in the fields of rehabilitation and diagnostics. A wide variety of patient groups are seen, including both in-patients and out-patients, and many have complex conditions and disabilities requiring specialist input. The department sits within the Clinical Support and Family Services Directorate of the hospital and is led by a Consultant Clinical Scientist. There is strong collaboration with other NHS Trusts, with commercial and industrial partners, with professional and regulatory bodies and with universities on research and postgraduate student projects. Excellent links exist between the department and Odstock Medical Ltd. [OML], an NHS-owned company based on site delivering the FES clinical service.
