Our process

Our Process: A ‘Typical’ IVF Treatment Pathway patient journey

The stages we'll go through together:

  • Contact the unit on 01722 417 224. We will be delighted to answer any initial questions and arrange a face to face visit if you wish
  • Attend for Consultant review. The Consultant will review your medical history and if appropriate, further tests such as ultrasound scan and semen analysis will be performed. Options will be discussed and a treatment plan will be recommend based on your preferences
  • Attend for review with nurses, to discuss dates, sign consent forms, demonstrate medication administration, provide support and answer any questions
  • Injections for both down-regulation and stimulation will be given, with regular scans to assess the response
  • Egg collection under sedation will be arranged once the follicles are ready. You will be advised regarding egg numbers on the day, and fertilisation numbers the following day
  • Embryo transfer is performed in the fertility unit usually five days after egg collection
  • Blood tests are sent around two weeks after this. Counselling and support is available throughout this time and after treatment.

Our staff at Salisbury District Hospital have long been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment they provide for our patients and for their innovation, commitment and professionalism. This has been recognised in a wide range of achievements and it is reflected in our award of NHS Foundation Trust status. This is afforded to hospitals that provide the highest standards of care.
