Treatments with Donor Sperm

What are treatments with Donor Sperm?

Donor sperm can be used in Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and IVF treatments, and with egg sharing treatment cycles. We have links with a number of donor sperm banks from where donor sperm can be procured.

How does it work?

Once you and your consultant have agreed on using donor sperm in your treatment you have a session with the counsellor to explore the implications of using donated sperm in your treatment. Following this one of our nurse co-ordinators discusses and advises you on the options for procuring donor sperm. Once a donor has been selected, the sperm ordered and received at the Fertility Centre, your treatment can be planned.

The various treatments in which donor sperm can be used are planned and completed in the same way as described for those using partner sperm except with the use of donor sperm.

Who are treatments with Donor Sperm suitable for?

If the male partner is azoospermic or unable to produce a sperm sample treatment with donor sperm may be appropriate for you. Treatment with donor sperm will also be suitable for you if you are a female same sex couple or a single woman. Please contact us to arrange a consultation as all our treatments are recommended on an individual basis dependent on your clinical history and circumstances.

Our staff at Salisbury District Hospital have long been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment they provide for our patients and for their innovation, commitment and professionalism. This has been recognised in a wide range of achievements and it is reflected in our award of NHS Foundation Trust status. This is afforded to hospitals that provide the highest standards of care.
