Registration of Birth

If your baby was born without signs of life within the first 24 completed weeks of pregnancy the birth is not formally registered and for legal reasons this is called a miscarriage. You will be offered an acknowledgement of birth certificate by the staff.

If your baby is born without signs of life at 24 weeks gestation or after this is legally called a stillbirth and you are required to register this birth.

If your baby is born alive and then dies with in the first 28 days of birth this is legally called a Neonatal Death and you are required to register the birth and death.

You will be given further information on this depending on your individual circumstances by the Maternity and Neonatal staff.

Our staff at Salisbury District Hospital have long been well regarded for the quality of care and treatment they provide for our patients and for their innovation, commitment and professionalism. This has been recognised in a wide range of achievements and it is reflected in our award of NHS Foundation Trust status. This is afforded to hospitals that provide the highest standards of care.
