Request Summary: Referral of Miscarriages and Traumatic Births Since 2019
Request Category: Private Individuals
Question Number 1: Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please could you provide the following information regarding the referral process at your NHS Trust: Number of Referrals The number of referrals for support, counselling, or specialist services made following miscarriages or traumatic births for each of the following calendar years: 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024
Answer To Question 1: The Trust do not hold data on the number of referrals made following miscarriages for support, counselling or specialist services. For traumatic birth, the OCEAN service supports Women who have suffered Birth Trauma, Loss or Fear (Tokophobia). It was established in 2023, data on referral numbers is not available.
Question Number 2: The average wait in days from referral for support, counselling, or specialist services made following miscarriages or traumatic births to that support beginning for patients for each of the following calendar years: 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023 2024
Answer To Question 2: The Ocean service aims to offer a first appointment for screening within 2 weeks of referral into the service. After this screening, an individualised plan is made with the Woman about how best to meet her needs going forwards - this may include therapy. The OCEAN service specification is broader than just traumatic birth and miscarriage and we do not collect data as per Q1.
Question Number 3: The longest current wait in days from referral for support, counselling, or specialist services made following miscarriages or traumatic births to that support beginning for patients.
Answer To Question 3: The Trust do not have this information due to the variety of support services we signpost and refer women to, dependent on individual need.
