Request Summary: Exception Reporting

Request Category: Private Individuals

Question Number 1:
Please complete the attached table on the software currently used in each department to allow resident doctors to submit exception reports*:

* exception reporting refers to a system that allows doctors and other healthcare professionals to formally log any deviations from their agreed work schedule

Answer To Question 1:

For SDH Allocate is used for electronic resident doctor exception reporting across all departments. We are expecting an updated version of Allocate to support the reforms. There are slightly different rules for deanery resident doctors in training versus our locally employed doctors. The later have local T&Cs which 'mirror' the national version and will require review after the 19th Sept.

Question Number 2:
Are there any plans to change or upgrade the current exception reporting system? Given the NHS requirement for full implementation of the exception reporting reforms by 12th September 2025 (as reported by NHS England)

Answer To Question 2:
The 12th September implementation date for exception reporting reforms has been delayed. There has been no new date announced yet, to our knowledge. The updated Terms and Conditions of Service for resident doctors required for these reforms have not yet been published (due on 19th September).

Locally we have introduced aspects of the reforms from the 6th August, with the aim of best supporting our resident doctors. There is guidance for this on Sali under departments / resident doctors. Some aspects cannot be introduced until updated software available and new T&Cs in place.

Question Number 3:
Can you provide the name and contact information for the Trusts Guardian of Safe Working Hours contact?
