Our hospital is set in the picturesque rural county of Wiltshire. Although located in the city of Salisbury, the hospital is situated at the top of a hill surrounded by beautiful countryside and plenty of fresh air!
Salisbury has excellent road, rail, bus and coach links to London, as well as Bath and the south coast with Great Western Railway trains calling hourly from Cardiff Central, Bristol Temple Meads, Bath Spa to Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour. Two main rail routes intersect Salisbury, with a direct route to London Waterloo that takes less than 90 minutes. The city is approximately 20 miles from Southampton and 30 miles from Bath, you will also find the World Heritage Site Stonehenge just 9 miles from Salisbury!
With its iconic Cathedral in the heart of the City, there is plenty to see and do. Since the late 16th century, the spire of Salisbury Cathedral has been the tallest in England. Salisbury's Charter Market is also one of the oldest in the UK and has been running since 1227.
It's not just the market however that's been running for a long time, Salisbury's Fair is also one of the longest running in the country! In 1227, King Henry III granted a Charter to the Bishop of Salisbury to hold a fair on the third Monday in October and it's happened every year since.
Salisbury is a very sporty city. It has it's own football team, Salisbury FC, who are based at Raymond McEnhill Stadium on the north edge of the city. Salisbury Rugby Club play in Southern Counties South, the South Wilts Cricket Club and Hockey Club are based at the Salisbury and South Wiltshire Sports club and play in the Southern Premier Cricket League!
